Background:

The desire to document the story of the Nashville Chattanooga & St. Louis and its architecture has been a fascinating journey. This trek has taken me to libraries and archives across the southern United States and to some very remote areas in four states attempting to locate and document the remaining NC&St.L structures.

I have assembled this information in my new book “Next Stop on Grandpa’s Road, History and Architecture of the NC&St.L Railway Depots
and Terminals.”

The book contains valuable documentation on the history of the Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis as well as the smaller companies that merged into the NC&St.L from its beginnings in the 1840s though it demise in the mid-1950s. You will also find valuable information on the operations of the railroad from the superintendent down to the agent or operator at the country depot.
